Iphone 5s dropping calls on O2

Hi all,

I'm losing my will to live with this problem...

Got my Iphone 5s 2 days after release, and since then it keeps dropping calls all the time, regardless of signal strength. Also if it's not dropping calls, people tell me that my voice is very distorted and they can barely hear me. This is what I have done so far to try and eliminate the problem:-

  • Soft Reset.
  • Hard Reset.
  • Reset all network settings.
  • Took Sims out, cleaned it with a anti-static cloth and re-inserted.
  • Re-placed Sims with new Sims, carried out the Sims-swap procedure.
  • Checked service status with O2 - No reported faults.

I used to have a similar problem with the old 3GS, so got rid of it and upgraded to 4S. Problem disappeared (Whoopee). Now I seem to have it back again?

My Signal strength (at my home address) on my PAYG O2 Nokia N95 always shows 4-5 bars, Iphone 4s used to show 3-4 bars....5S shows 3 bars on a good day, but averages 1-2 on most other. My Partners 3GS on O2 PAYG shows 4-5 bars at my address sitting next to my 5S.

Can anyone give me any more helpful advice on this matter... as I'm at the point of returning phone to O2... which I don't really want to do..

Many Thanks

Graham

Go to a Genius Bar for a diagnostic.

If the iPhone is faulty they will swop it for you.

I would definitely return the phone via Apple. You really want to struggle with this until the end of the contract? You have done all the diagnostics.

When you say hard reset, do you mean just via the phone - erase all content and settings?

If so you should try a DFU restore, to do a full reflash of the software/firmware - as if you have a buggy install, erasing it will keep them until a full reflash is carried out.

Plug your phone into computer.

(Firstly backup your phone via iTunes - only if you have stuff you want to keep)

Power it off.

Press and hold POWER + HOME

Count to 10 (mississippi's remember! lol)

Release the POWER button

Keep holding home until iTunes detects phone in recovery mode.

Hit restore and let it do it's thing.

Also to eliminate any quirky things from an old backup - setup as a new phone.

If it works ok - you can then restore your backup if you wish.  Monitor it and see how it performs.  If it's ok, great.  If not then you can carry out the same procedure above and ditcxh the backup as you know there's something funky in that!

Hi

I was told that this is a corrupt file on the iPhone, and if you have a new handset, YOU CANNOT RESTORE from backup as you'll put the corrupt file back

What they did not tell me is what this file is AND of course im out of warrenty so cant get the handset replaced , so i think ill be looking at another provider when my contract expires
