Ordered a 5s white 16gb on the 23rd September, was given the standard "up to 6/12 weeks" for delivery, spoke to O2 today, and am taking with a pinch of salt, but this changed on the 4th October to up to 2 week delivery. Not sure if that just for me or general orders.

I can confirm the same has happened to me. I am also a longtime o2 customer. Im on business lease and renewed on 30 September 2013 and still cant be given an answer. If I hadnt waited so long until now I would have cancelled and gotten a different colour from an o2 store rather. The main problem I have is that customers should be given handsets in the order they were placed.
I am happy for the people that were delivered hansets swiftly when placing orderes in late october but its not funny when some people that ordered in Septemeber havent seen any update and cant get any further info.
I sent an email to the CEO's office and got a call back mid last month but still not joy. I think another mail is in order this time ill add a link to this forum so the people up top can see what their customers are experiencing. Really it is just bad service.

Hi Cheshbon,
Did they call you or did you call them ?
After seeing the previous post from David5166, I have already taking the liberty of emailing the CEO office and linking in this page.
Being British, its genetic that we are tolerant to queue and wait our turn in line. But it does anger me when the process of issuing handsets seems sporadic at best. It’s like the postcode lottery.
Let see what tomorrow brings !

Hi Tissy,
I called them. The first lady was very unhelpful and said that this was the normal time to wait. I then explained about people getting handsets in 2 days a month after I ordered. She then explained that different sections of the o2 network get different allocations. I would take it they do this by how much profit certain contract types give them knowing o2.
So I guess business lease is at the bottom of the pile as usually its an employee who get what they are given when they get it so no complaint.
Anyways I then went onto explain that o2 has been nagging me for my old handset an iphone 5 to be returned and she xfered me to a business specialist who told me that she had a memo saying 64gb gold were coming in 15/11/2013 and she expected me to get mine based on the length on time ive waited. I am unsure about this and will not hold my breath as Im sure you will get yours before me as you ordered nearly a week prior. I say this but again its the postcode lottery you talk of.
Any ways what a joke. let me know if you hear any news and ill do the same.

Hello again folks. I'm so sorry that my message seemed to spark such frustration amongst the community, but glad to see that it looks like you'll have your new iPhones very soon too.
I've no idea why I only had to wait a week, when many of you have had months of waiting to endure, but hopefully the stocks are now beginning to filter through on a more regualr basis, meaning that everyone can have the phones they want.
Enjoy your 5S's when they come - I'd moved away to Android for the past 18 months but had always hankered to switch back... Setting up the 5S last night was like welcoming home an old friend...
