IMEI not linked to phone number

Anonymous
Not applicable
I recently bought an iPhone 4S from eBay and checked on checkmend.com that it was not stolen or subject to any finance etc.

It works fine with my O2 sim but as I travel a lot I often want to use other carriers sims.

I filled in the online form and received an emil from O2 saying the IMEI was not linked to my phone number. I also tried Live Chat and I think ( very poor English from them ) they said the same thing and hat the eBay seller would have to contact them.

My previous 3GS was unlocked by O2 with no problems so I don't understand what they want the eBay seller to do or say?

I understand O2 trying to stop theft of phones by making this difficult but if the phone is not stolen then surely the new owner should be able to get it unlocked.

So how do I get this 4S linked to my phone number so that I can get it unlocked please?

You need to make some chargeable calls to latch the imei with your 02 account/ SIM card

Ring 02 on 202 contract or 4445 payg to have your account checked.

Then try the unlock form once again.

I think bob is telling you to make a few chargeable calls using the sim which you have nominated on the form. That's the only way O2 can associate the sim and IMEI number.

Ok thanks. I have already made a few calls but maybe they aren't "chargeable" as thy are included in my contract minutes. However I have one call from the USA to the UK so hopefully that counts.

They were all made before a had the Live Chat session but maybe haven't appeared on
my account yet.

Hi,

Its possible.

Occasionally a topic like yours does crop up and typically doing what ive said resolves the issue.

TBH Live Chat are not the people to talk to when its about your account. They are ok for low level general enquiries.

o2 Customer Services on 202 is the better avenue.

Good luck.

Well your advice seems to have worked. After making a couple of calls and resubmitting the online request form, I now have an email saying the iPhone is unlocked.

I'll plug it into iTunes tomorrow and see what happens.
