Hardware fault iphone 5

Anonymous
Not applicable

My iphone 5 which is 14 months old has developed a hardware fault. The power button does not work at all. It was tricky for a week or 2 in that it would work if you held it down, or it would work every 3-5 time it was pushed, but now its not working at all. O2 have offered to fix it at a cost, but they can't tell me what the cost will be.

Has anyone else had the same fault, and can you give me a rough idea of what the cost of repair is likely to be?

I've had the same problem with my iPhone 4. At my old work place there was a store that sells electronics and Apple products. They said they can repair it but it will need to be sent off. Cost me 18pounds and got the phone back 3 says later. O2 repairs are pricey so ask around in mobile shops or go straight to Apple store

Hi.

Check any household insurance or bank account t and c to see if you have cover.

I would suggest visiting your local Apple store genius bar. They will advise on repair or offer You a out of warranty replacement for a fee. http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_Kingdom&product=iphone

Genius Bar appointment.

Have you tried a reset by any chance.

Holding the power button and home button in together until the Apple logo appears and then let go.

I would take it to apple and say you want it fixed they may not do it but may just I know the warranty is 12 months but under consumer law it should last longer than that for the value of the device

It can depend in which specialist or genius you get and the management.

I've spoken with people who have walked out with a mint refurb even tho the warranty has expired.

I wouldn't trust a cellphone standalone shop.

O2 repairs would contact you before attempting the repair with a costing. At that point you can authorise or decline the work. Just take pictures of the iPhone on that days newspapers if their not date/time stamped to prove the quality of the iPhone before you sent it off.

Yes because Apple are the only company who only offer a measley 12 month warranty on their products aren't they?

The sales of goods act doesn't quite say that, manufacturers can offer warranties of whatever length they like but after 6 months, or after the warranty has expired (whichever comes later) the burden of proof shifts from the retailer to the customer to prove that the fault was present when they received the goods, which usually isn't easy to do.
