Data help

Hi,

I'm an O2 business customer, and have been for some time. I used to have an iPhone 4S and I was on a data plan that allowed me 1GB of data per month. I never used to come close to using this allowance and never once ran out in about 2 years.

In September, I upgraded to an iPhone 5, and my new contract allowed me a 2GB data limit. Since then, each month, I've somehow used all of my data allowance by about the 29th. I've already had a text today saying I've used 80%, and I expect to receive one before my billing cycle resets on the 1st saying it's all been used.

I have not changed the way in which I use my phone at all. I use wifi at home and at work. I've even started turning my data off completely (which I've never had to do before) when I'm at home or work so it can't use it. Yet somehow, I am still managing to do so and I have no idea why. I've turned off everything I can think of in the background. Interestingly, my iPhone itself says I've only used 3.7GB since the stats were last reset on 18th September 2013. I understand those stats won't be completely accurate, but according to O2, I've used my full 2GB per month, which would mean I've used almost 10GB in that time. The stats can't surely be that different? Either my phone is lying or O2 are, and I strongly suspect that this is something at O2's end.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gareth

If your usage hasn't changed then your data shouldn't increase I would be inclined to give O2 a call and ask them to investigate they can do an investigation on the network

Lots of reports of erroneous data usage with iPhone. Reset your stats monthly and take screenshots to back up your claims then approach O2 with your evidence.
Also make sure diagnostic data sent back to Apple is deselected in settings.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

That is deselected and has been for a long time. I'll try and do what you suggest with the screenshots. Thanks 🙂

Best advice I can give as a business customer that has not seen any strange increase in data usage on my account 5s is to ring 8002 and query it.

I would advise going forward each month on billing day to reset your data counter on the iphone. And then check each apps data usage (ios7) settings> mobile> scroll down.

So you can compare actual on iphone to daily totals in my-o2 business

P.s. I have diagnostics enabled and always have

iPhone 11 Pro 256gb on unlimited data
iPad Pro 12.9” 2020 256gb refresh o2 family discount
Apple Watch series 4
My first mobile was in 1995 a CM-R111 from sony on Cellnet.
Wincanton South Somerset (Full 4g 3G 2g indoor coverage) Remember we are all customers here not customer services

Is mobile data also switched off at night? Because the iPhone goes into sleeping mode even when connected to wifi and O2 might be updating which drains a lot of data.

Yes, I also turn it off at night. The only time I switch it on is when I'm out and about.

I have 5s myself and no problems with data. Definitely keep evidence so O2 won't have nothing on you slight_smile
