As long as your phone is unlocked there is nothing stopping you.
If not, you would have to unlock it first by filling in the handset unlock form. It's free on Monthly but £15 0n P&G.
It can take 14 days to unlock.

I don't need to unlock any phone at the moment, but I just took a look at the link you posted. I find it very odd that O2 still lists the Palm Pre in the drop down menu, as well as LG phones, which they don't sell, and Sony Ericsson, which doesn't exist any more. Why doesn't O2 update this link?

O2 tend to be very slow at updating the web site, a PM to Leonard may get it done.

I agree, but HTC phones should be included in the list as well as Sony. I will send a PM to Leonard. Palm Pre?????????? I think the Pre must be an abreviation for prehistoric.
On a separate note relating to the OP's original question, I thought that if his phone was locked he wouldn't be able to unlock it if he was abroad. I thought you could only unlock a phone if you were in the UK?
