Sony Xperia T - sleep of death

Hi

 

I'm wondering if anyone else has had the sleep of death problem with the Xperia T?  I've seen a few reports of similar symptoms to mine, but not a huge number.

 

I've had the phone a few weeks (bought in the Jan sale) ...this morning is the second time it has failed to wake after a night on charge.  The green light is on... holding down the volume + and power key has no effect.  It is dead to the world, and to a computer if you try a usb cable.

 

Last time I tried repeatedly through the day occasionally holding down the volume + and power keys... in the end, it randomly decided it would reset after I plugged it into a charger and tried again.  I suspect I'm in for a similar wait again today.

 

A shame as I love the phone but need to be able to rely upon it.

 

Anyone else with the same problem?


(a bit of research indicates this might be an ice cream sandwich problem, so with a jellybean update on the way I'm hopeful this might be a cure)

I've seen it mentioned on the Sony forums and there's mention of it elsewhere - so it's obviously something inherent.

 

There's one thing that I couldn't make out from the posts I read - have you recently installed a new version or major update of Android?   If so, there is a recurrent problem with Xperia that they seem to suffer corruption when updated using Sony's PCC software.  The common - and effective - cure is to force a complete reinstall of Android - connect to PCC and when it tells you that you already have the latest version, click on the notice and chose the "repair" option.  That will install the O/S without trying to update it - which removes any possibility of clashes with older apps or files.   Be warned though - doing this will completey remove all settings, apps and data - so back everything up that you can't afford to lose.

 

As a stop-gap - you couild try installing an app to prevent the phone from going to sleep when connected to the charger - "redeye" is one (free) and I'm sure there will be others.

Thank you, that sounds like good advice... and you might be onto something with using the PCC to update software - I did exactly that when I first got the phone, the software told me there was an incremental system update so I let it apply it.

 

Assuming I can get it to wake up, I think I'll be brave and try a repair/reinstall.  Thanks slight_smile

One thing that would be really welcome is if anyone knows any other tricks apart from holding down volume + and the power key.  It's still dead to the world with only its green light... the light's on but nobody's home.

 

This'll learn me not to get a phone where I can't get in to disconnect the battery...

Try holding the power button for 20-30 seconds.

For the record I've had to resort to a (like for like) handset swap.  Hopefully I'll have better luck this time!
