Signal loss on HTC One X

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

My HOX keeps losing signal and failing to re-establish a connection. I can be in places where I know there is definately a signal (e.g. Birmingham City Centre, my home address, my work etc) and have either my wife or colleagues who are also on 02 have strong consistant 3G signals.

I will look at my phone and realise it is showing 'no network coverage'. I noticed it once at home at around 3am, did nothing to the phone, and three hours later it still hadn't found the signal again.

If I do something to the phone like reset it or switch it to flight mode and back to force it to search for the network, it usually does.

Is there any suggestions on how to solve the problem? Could it be a simcard problem?

I would certainly try a new SIM, if not that phone needs to go in for repair.

I experienced this same issue recently with my One X - I took the sim out to find quite a lot of dust in the tray area. I blew it out, reinstalled the sim and it's been fine since - give it a go

Can an O2 store change the sim for me while I wait?

Have been into an O2 store today and swapped my sim. Will update in a few days as to whether or not the problem has resolved itself.

On an unrelated note: Any idea why my HOX seems to be unable to locate a relaible 3G signal in areas (such as my office) where my colleague's Iphone 5 (on O2) has 3G all day long? Also at home I rarely get a 3G signal, whereas my wife's Lumia 800 does (also on O2).

Try this: go to settings, then select ‘mobile data’ (not the on/off slider) you’ll get an array of options. Then select ‘access point names’, then select your network i.e. O2 Mobile Web - this is assuming you're on Android 4.1.1 Let us know if this works.....

pdmoulsher I presume your suggestion was in response to my second query regarding reliable 3G signal? I have checked my APN's and the only options i have are "O2 mobile web" <mobile.02.co.uk> or O2 MMS <wap.O2.co.uk>. I am using the former which I presume is right for a contract phone?

With regards to the Sim card issue, since I had it swapped on Thursday, I haven't had a signal loss at all.

#happy!

Those are the correct settings Phil, sounds like you may have a hardware issue - if that's the case you will need to send the phone for repair Smiley Frustrated

Glad the sim issue is sorted though slight_smile
