The Service Checker is not 100% accurate and is probably just being updated for your postcode. Its there to give an indication only.

As O2 say on the Service Checker  "If we need to make upgrades to the network in your area, it might affect your signal whilst the work’s being carried out. But we’ll always make sure we make it as quick and painless as possible."

O2 stopped Unlimited data a while ago.

Only a luck few remain on that old tariff now which are legacy tariffs. These are 3G only.

I suppose they didnt want the network to become congested with people tethering.

If you look at Giffgaff they do have unlimited data tariffs on the £12 goodybags but dont allow tethering because of congestion. If they see you tethering your data is turned off for 30 minutes to allow the thethering to be removed !

Im on payg go go go 4G with 1gb of data.

I'd love to have maybe 2-3gb of data allowance as standard in my tariff, but just add a data bolt on if required for now.

You must do some serious surfing using mobile data to eat your way through that amount quickly. Another reason why O2 probably don't offer unlimited !

Different things can affect repairs and upgrades to masts such as weather conditions, parts and access to premises and land etc.
