Samsung Galaxy S3 Battery Life

Hi all

Just got the Samsung Galaxy S3 and have a question regarding battery life.

The only smart phones I have owns have been the iPhone 3g and the Nokia N8.  With the iPhone the battery used to last a day, untill it was about 13 months old when the battery died and would only last a few hours.  The Nokia N8 would hold a usable charge for around 3 days and even now, although its 2 years old it still hold a good charge and lasts a good 2 days.

Now I have a nice new S3 and the battery is only lasting about 12 hours.  I know its a new phone so its still got its play value, and I know new batteries need cycling a few times to get their full capacity but dose 12 hours sound right for a brand new battery.

Hi Jeanette.

               I was in the same boat as you with battery life. I have the the GS3 for a few weeks now and the battery life is now far better than when I first had it brand new, the batteries on these really do seem to need wearing in and I have also read on here somewhere about the memory of the lithium cell that needs calibrating. This is something the phone does it self and eventually "learns" your battery but you can speed this up with letting the phone go flat and then charging to full with no interruptions. Thats what I did and that worked very well.

Also try configfuring your "Power Saving" settings, they really help too. I have that enabled all the time with the exception of when I am typing emails and using apps. When I finish I then pop power saving back on. That really helps.

Hope you're enjoying the S3 as much as I am, I too made the leap from Apple (had an iPhone 4s) to Android and will never look back!

If that still doesn't help you could always go on "insert popular auction website here" genuine batteries are from around £3!!

Many thanks for the reply, I was hoping it was something like that.

As for the Genuine Samsung Batteries on a certain auction site for £3, is there nothing the Chinese won't clone and try to pass of as Genuine, I sometimes think that everything that comes out of China is a clone and not safe to use, especialy electronics, Memory Cards andand Ink Jet Ink sets..

Most Chinese stuff on auction sites are clones, counterfeit etc & not genuine as claimed, many people complain that what they received wasn't like the picture on the bid they were doing

The best battery fix for S3 i found was to go to settings > wifi > (options hard key) >  advanced > Keep wifi on during sliip > "Never"

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Anyone got any recomendations for a fully compatible high capacity battery for the S3.

One that not only works but includes the hidden ID chip and the NFC Arial like the original, although the NFC arial is not too important as I dont use that feature.

Hi all

i took the phone off charge at 10 last night it was 100% charged, and when I got up a 6 this morning it was down to 15%, it had just been on standby with power saving mode activated.

will the get any better, I am starting to think the battery is faulty.

I was have a bad battery time after jelly bean. last light i tried the run the battery down flat thing even though i seen somewhere these batterys dont need doing. its been better today,  i dont use power saving.

I noticed my battery was a lot worse after I upgraded to Jellybean and I was initially quite irritated. However, I read on here that doing a factory reset improves things a lot because updating may cause programs to conflict/ old settings or programs keep running. I did the factory reset and my battery is now brilliant. Last night I lost 2% (84% - 82%) over my 9 hour sleep. My phone has now been on for 24 hours and has lost 20% of battery.

If you go to developer options also you can limit the amount of background processes. Most people do 4 I limit it to two. Turn on power saving mode, keep all radios (WIFI, GPS and Mobilie data off until I need them, turn screen brightness down, screen timeout to the lowest.

I think thats all i've done to save battery life.

I had the same issue with my battery... i took it to the o2 store and they advised me to get rid of the apps i didnt need i.e the weather app that needs infomation all the time... also turn your screen brightness down to half as this could save it a little.  my battery was at 100% this morning at 7.00am and now its 92% so the apps you dont need try not to run them... i know its a smart phone and thats the point in having the phone but it does help not to have them running... if im on my phone alot throughout the day my battery only lasts me until about 6 in the evening, unfortunatly its just the disadvantage of the phone 😞 hope this helps
