Hello, I've just bought an Xperia U from ebay and it's locked to O2. Any chance I could get an unlock code for it as I'm leaving the country soon and would have to get a foreign sim card?

If they use their contract sim in the phone to make a few calls then they can get the phone unlocked by filling in the form.

Good Morning,
Welcome to the Community Forum.
You would have to be a customer on the 02 Network and been active on the Network for 12 Months. {Payg}
On Payg the fee is £15.00 so top up by £20 ,and make a few chargeable calls to latch the phone to your sim.
If your a contract 02 Customer then its a free service.
Fill out this Unlock Form.

They just need to fill in the form then with their details. Their simcard should still be associated with the IMEI of the phone and the original owner can just email you the unlock code.
