S4 Battery Woes

Anonymous
Not applicable

Afternoon all, sorry if this has been posted before but Ive found over the last week or 2 that my S4's battery life has been going downhill.

Ive not installed anything new and am running the stock O2 firmware (recently updated)

Its turning off pretty randomly and takes me several attempts to get it on again!

A few other things ive noticed are:

Doesnt always connect to my laptop

Wont charge in the car (even though it says it is!)

I then noticed that the battery is very swollen (so much so that the cover wont go on without force!)

Has anyone else noticed this with theirs? Im worried that the battery only seems to have lasted 9 weeks and i wouldnt say that Im a heavy user!!

Well as an update on this, it starts to fail whenever it goes below about 60% charge.

When it failed I swopped batteries with my sister and to problem transferred to her phone.

Guess I was right to order a couple of spares from Samsung!

Worthwhile noting if this happens to anyone else

A bad battery can happen.

Make sure the ports on the phone are clean and free of lint.

If your on the newest firmware and hard resets are not working then I would suggest getting the phone checked out by the manufacturer.

Turn off the phone and remove the battery. Wait 2 minutes and put it back
Press and hold down Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
Release all buttons when you see S2 Logo.
Android system recovery will be loaded now
Select wipe data/factory reset. (Volume buttons to go up or down, select with power button)

Make sure you back up to your gmail account first as your phone will be wiped.

The OP has stated they are checking the battery.

Bulging batteries are a common problem on the S4 which Samsung are aware of. If you contact them they will send you a replacement (batteries are warranted for 6 months anyway).

Doing a factory reset will do nothing for you except waste your time wink
