Putting O2 SIM card in a new (sim-free) phone

Hello,

This may sound like a daft question but,

I'm planning on buying a cheap sim-free smart phone (probably the moto g) to replace my old S4.

I've had the S4 for three years, initially under a 24 month contract and then switched to simplicity paying £10 a month. I'm quite happy with O2 and wondered if swapping my existing SIM card from the S4 to the new sim-free phone would be as straightforward as I imagine, or are there things I have to do/consider first?

Firstly check if the new phone has the same sized SIM card that you have. If it's a different size then you can go into your local o2 store & they will do it for you. They will also do a sim swap if you need it or you can do the swap online yourself

Yes it's as simple as that. As @Anonymous says, if the sim is the same size (which I believe it is) then just put it in your new phone. Text ACTIVE to 2020 to get the settings sent to the Moto G and save them. If by any chance the sim is different just pop into the O2 store to get the sim changed. If you have an old sim you may want to change it anyway to get 4G.

I was bidding on a phone on ebay (oh yes!) which had a nano sim while my existing phone had a micro sim.

I went into an O2 shop and asked them to give me a blank sim for the event that I won the phone I was bidding on. They came up with a better suggestion -- they did a sim swap with my existing sim there and then, and put it back into my existing phone. When I won the phone I was buying, I just pushed the nano sim out of the micro sim and put it straight into the new phone.

Plenty of info and advice about second hand phones.....some brilliant...some not so good. I know Ebay gets a fair amount of bad press BUT if you buy from a recognised and recommended seller you should have no problems at all. I have had many good phones (back in the day) from Ebay. I used the same seller every time so knew he was trusted. Anyway best of luck with yours...:smileywink:

Any problems with eBay phones usually happen after a couple of months when the phone is the subject of a fictitious insurance claim.
