Moving over to an S4 from a BB

Hi there, after months of debating if & when to upgrade my phone I've finally done it! I've decided on a Samsung Galaxy S4, so I've basically fast tracked my upgrade (with the discount) to 02 Refresh.

Here's what I'm confused about... I have a BB right now, what happens to that phone? Will I lose everything? I've got hundreds of pictures I'd obviously like to keep/move over. Do I get a new sim with my S4? I will also probably move my mobile number over to my S4.

Probably a stupid question... My BB is the first mobile I've had on contract. So sorry if the answers are really obvious. Smiley Embarassed

If you are upgrading in store, just tell them you want to keep your number. If done online, use the swapmysim form as bob suggests above....

Hi,

You will receive a new sim card with your new phone where you will just need to perform the simswap.

This moves your mobile number over to the new sim card.

Heres the link to use when you receive it all.

http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/

The process takes approx 24 hours for your signal to settle.

Your original phone is yours to keep and nothing will be deleted from it however if you want to transfer your saved data from the BB to your new phone then you will need some form of suite or software to accomplish this.

You can use the BB as a back up phone, sell it and unlock it free of charge via O2 Unlocking https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form.

Typically some people use GMAIL on their samsung phones.

A member called MI5 has good working knowledge of this and will be able to suggest ways of moving your data across.

Hope you dont mind me name dropping @MI5 !

No worries bob.... The easiest way is to copy everything to an external SD card and then put this into your S4.... This will also give you a back up of your files....

Okay, good to know I won't lose anything on my BB. slight_smile

If I wanted to use my current (BB) mobile phone number on my S4, would I lose anything on my BB?

Hi,

Your mobile number and tariff are separate from your mobile phone.

When you 'upgraded' you agreed to another probably 24 month contract on the same number and whatever tariff you agreed to.

All your doing by carrying out the swapmysim is move your details from the sim card thats inserted into your BB to the sim card your going to insert into the s4. When this has been completed the sim card in the BB will become de activated and no longer work at all.

You can either pick up a payg sim card from an o2 shop or order one online and use the BB as 2nd phone, or keep it safe as a back up just incase anything happens to your s4 or sell it on.

You can request it unlocked too as I've said in my earlier reply.

Ohhhh okay, I get it now! I've ordered it online so I'll have to do the swapmysim then. As long as nothing (pictures, videos especially) doesn't get lost on my BB when I stop using it/swap the sim then all is good. slight_smile

No, you won't lose anything, they will always be on the phone. Although, if they are important to you BACK UP to your PC and then copy them to a CD.
You'd be surprised how many people we get asking how to recover data because a phone has broken or suddenly stopped working and they haven't backed up important stuff.
