Moving Numbers to and from O2

I am in a position to upgrade my current phone ( number 5678 for example). I want to upgrade to an iphone but want to bring across from giffgaff a different number (1234 for example) to use with the iphone tariff. I also want to keep my current number (5678) and transfer to another network. Can this be done?

You'd need a PAC code to transfer the number to another network. To bring your number across would mean porting it in I think & then getting customer service to transfer it to the chosen tariff

I understand I need a pac code. What Im2 asking is can I effectively change the number attached to the new tariff and still use the old number on another network?

Hi @Anonymous All you need to know is in this link...

http://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number

Take note of this section...

"Requesting a switch
Before we can transfer your number, we'll need your PAC. This is a code made up of three letters and six numbers. You can get this from your current provider and it will be valid for 30 days. Let us know your PAC when you place your order.

Once you've ordered and received your temporary O2 number, fill in the keep my number form. Your temporary number can be found in your O2 confirmation email or sim pack. You'll also need the number you want to keep.

Forms sent by 5:30pm will be completed the next working day. Forms sent after 5:30pm will be completed within two working days. You'll receive two text messages, one to confirm the date of your switch and one to remind you on the day.

Make sure you save the contacts on your sim before the switch"

Short answer is no.
If you try and move 5678 to another network it will close the account.
To do what you want to do you need a PAC from o2 for 5678 and then take a new account to move 1234 to from giffgaff.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.
