Looks like there has been another foul up on JB 😞 Some people may be recieving the error above when trying to open messaging. I called o2 who said they have had multiple reports and the only known fix is to backup with kies and then restore.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Hi Maggie and everyone else. I had the same issue, only recieved the phone on the 18th Ocotber as a new upgrade and had this problem after Jelly Bean update. I tried clear cache.. service stopped, disable etc but nothing worked. I ddidnt want to factory restore as other said it didnt work either.
However i found a short term solution.. Download Go SMSpro from play store.. install that and run..
Now guess what? try opening the stock messageing app.. it strangely works eh.. Somehow this app gives it a kick up the backside to start working again..Tip.. Go sms is alot better than the stock messaging app. :))) hope this helps guys!!
Sorry, didnt see your post before commenting

I think the original problem was caused by o2 but now they are having to beg samsung for help because they screwed it up. Its the same as the roll-out, o2 added something that meant the update wouldn't roll out so they went crying to samsung.
O2 used to be a great network (i have been with them for as long as i can remember) but recently, they have showed that they are incapable of handling the simplest things. tis a shame really 😞

Quick update. After a factory reset everything worked for a week... then it died again. I attempted to open through s-voice and no joy.
Then I downloaded go sms pro, installed it, used it then restarted. After a restart I opened messaging again and it worked!
It looks like the problem is the messages o2 send. When you get it working you should notice two threads from o2, delete them both then enjoy.
To summarise:
Install and use go sms pro (free from play store)
Send one message using it
Restart
Open messaging (twice if it crashes the first time)
Delete o2 messages (should be two from different numbers)
Enjoy
Please let me know if this works for anyone else
This fixed the issue for me on my S3. And after I was told by the chap in the O2 shop that a factory reset was the only way to fix it as it was a (sudden) common problem.
