Afternoon everyone,

We’ve got some news & info to share with our Sony Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 & Z3 series device users. This week Sony have announced their Android Lollipop rollout plans, starting with the Z3 and Z3 Compact in the Nordics and Baltics regions a few days ago. As with most rollouts this will be phased and there are no specific timeframes set for which areas will see the update next, but we are working closely with Sony and will update you once we know more about a UK launch.

What can we expect?
Some awesome new features of course! Here’s what you can expect to see with the Z3 and Z3 Compact update:

  • Fresh, streamlined looks - based on Google’s material design, but retaining Sony’s minimalistic approach to interface and application design
  • New look notifications and lock screen - with fully customizable settings, so users only get the information they need
  • Multi user profiles and guest mode - making it easy for family and friends to use a single device, or the creation of dual environments for in and outside work
  • Android for Work - not only are business-ready Xperia smartphones and tablets unique devices for work - with waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features -they will now also be part of Google’s Android for Work ecosystem
  • Better storage control and customisation – with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card – giving users more control over content, something particularly useful for devices with slightly less space

More update info
Once the update arrives, you’ll receive an in-phone notification – you’ll have the option to either download over-the-air (via wifi), or connect to a computer using PC Companion or Bridge for Mac. The update is estimated to last around 20-25min and will require approximately 1.2GB of free space on your internal memory.

Other Z-series devices
Sony are committed to bringing Lollipop to their entire line-up of Z devices. Though the rollout is starting first with the Z3 and Z3 Compact, it will arrive to the Z2, Z1 and Z series devices. At present we have no further information or timescales but we will update this thread with more info as and when Sony progress through their rollout plans.

We’ll let you know closer to when we expect the update to start rolling out. In the meantime, what are you looking forward to most about this new Lollipop update?

2nd June Update
Lollipop is now rolling out for our Xperia Z phone and tablet users from today, with version number 10.6.A.0.454. Please do let us know your thoughts once the update has been applied. Anything you like, don't like, new features, how's performance etc.

And with that... Lollipop is now available on O2 for all our Xperia devices - Z, Z Ultra, Z1, Z2 & Z3. We hope for those of you already running Lollipop, you're having an even better experience than with KitKat or even Jellybean before that.

The eagle has landed! Just waiting for Google Play services to update as I'm getting a few crashes here and there and slow moments, I'm sure it will ease.

I've noticed that the 'Close All' option on the recent applications screen has now gone, does anyone know a quick way to close all open applications without having to manually swipe through every single one?

It's removed as it's not necessary, closing all the apps actually places more work on the phone's CPU and battery.
