Just received my second replacement handset - HTC One V. Still having the same problems in that the phone comes up with no service. There is no option to select a network operator either. Latest advice from 02 is that it's because I'm not in a 3G area - what rubbish!

Hi, yes we have 2 other Nokia handsets in the house that work perfectly well with our 02 SIM cards. Just tried another 02 SIM card in the HTC handsets this morning - someone from work who is also on 02 - still nothing!

Update - I also bought an 02 PAYG SIM last night to try. Still nothing! After spending even more time with 02 Chat, I have finally got another replacement handset on its way to me. This time it's a Nokia!

I have exactly the same problem. My HTC One S has been fine for 6 months or so, but the other week it stopped connecting to the mobile phone network. Wifi is fine, but no calls, texts etc.
I tried the SIM in another phone and it worked fine. I phoned o2 support and they got me to return my phone. It came back a week later and it worked for 24 hours, then the same happened again. This time o2 support offered me a doorstop swap (for a reconditioned model) and that one worked for 24 hours and then stopped.
This time they got me to go into an o2 shop (I suspect they thought I was doing something wrong). The guy in the shop tried a new SIM in the phone and it obviously didn't work either. He got me to phone o2 support from within the shop and they got me to do a factory reset, and amazingly this got it connecting to the network again. This lasted until this morning (around 48 hours) when it stopped connecting again and I had to do another reset.
So, I'm not sure what causes the problem, but a workaround is to do a factory reset which'll give you a day or two's grace.
What the solution is to this I don't know. Grateful for any insight.
thanks
Duncan

Upon researching further, it seems to be an issue with the latest version of Android 4.0.4. The issue for me has only started occuring since my phone automatically updated.
When I turn it back on - and it only seems to happen when I've had my phone turned off for a while - it fails to connect to the network and shows that 'airplane mode' is turning off (which it never completes). I've not used airplane mode for a long time, so I'm not sure why this is the case.
On browsing the forums of other mobile carriers I can see that they're having similar problems (although getting more help/acknowledgement):
kind regards
Duncan
