Yes it is, I got my network unlock code from O2 and used an orange sim so I could enter it

If you flash the UK firmware your product code will be "btu" which is fine.
I think that post is referring to flashing a different countries firmware which would effect the csc and give kies an issue, but not OTA updates.
Just make sure your phone is unlocked before flashing a non O2 ROM.
