Hello,
I have had friends try to send me mms messagees with pictures but they fail to download and just appear as an empty multimedia message. Oddly, I can send a picture message (mms) and it arrives at my friends phone ok. I do not have mobile data/wifi enabled and sending mms seems to work.
Do I need to get O2 to verify the settings - I am on PAYG
Cheers

Hi all,
I logged into O2 and got them to send me the settings config file again. The values were slightly different, but not greatly so. I think part of the problem was that the network signal was sometimes too low when the message arrived. However, when I get back to my home network, I can just tap to dowload the image message fine.
So the issue is sort of solved. And as mentioned before, if a MMS message does come in, and the signal is pretty stable, it will power up the mobile data connection to retrieve the MMS and shut it off after completed.
A minor issue to resolve as I do not send many MMS but worth noting. Yes the account does need to be setup for MMS.
Cheers for the background information

Easiest way to get settings is to text the word "active" to 2020 then follow the instructions that get sent back.
If this fails try the manual settings from this link http://www.geeksquad.co.uk/articles/o2-apn-settings

If the above does not cure the issue then phone O2 and ask them to re provision your account for mms.
It's worth a try.
202 contract.

Well I know that MMS wors for me sending a picture message out, but clearly not for receiving. This is somewhat odd behaviour. I think my first port of call is to check with O2 and see what they say, they can do a test message back to verify I am sure.
Checked on my phone and as far as I can tell all the settings are correct for the APN and MMS, dowloaded the settings yesterday anyway. If the system has to activate the "mobile data" to send/receive MMS then it seems to only work one-way (outbound).
The MMS message that comes in says "Message not downloaded" - if that is meaningful?
I am pretty sure that on my old (non-smart) phone that MMS worked fine out-receive, so I am not clear if it is a smartphone function or what.
Thanks for the pointers so far
