7777pbhc7333.apk - Android system package?

Hi,

I was browsing the web with my Galaxy S3 when it unexpectedly downloaded the above apk. When I google the file name there are only 3 hits and it seems to be some adware, but when I "right click" on the downloaded file and view App Info it shows as com.sec.android.provider.. Has anyone else seen this? Is it really a system app? If not how can I prevent my phone from downloading stuff without prompting me? Do I need to do anything to clean it out? (I did not myself install the apk, but if it downloaded itself maybe it can install itself too?). Apologies if I am asking noob questions, but I am rather a newbie to android.

Thanks in advance,

SS

Go into "My Files", find the download directory on the phone (not sd card), locate the download, tick the box next to it then menu >delete. It will only install if you actually run the file.

Delete it if you can. It does look like adware but if it is a system app and your phone isn't rooted it wont allow you to delete it. so you can't do any harm by trying.

As far as I'm aware an APK cannot install itself so unless you have manually installed it you should be safe.

As I mentioned if your phone isn't rooted and I'm wrong and it is a system app you won't be able to delete it.

Thanks for the replies everyone (and apologies for the delay in my response, I had to go on a bit of a trip at short notice which took my mind off this).

When I look in My Files, there is only sdcard01 under /storage, and the file is not present in sdcard01/download - very strange. Anywhere else it could be?

Anyone know a way to prevent auto downloads? Also is it a common trick for 3rd party software to impersonate Android system? Just something we have to watch out for?

Thanks

Unfortunately it is very common for advertisements to attempt to install this way. It's like an attachment in an email from someone you don't know... Just don't click it. The default path is the download directory I mentioned but you may have your phone set to somewhere else for downloads. Look in "All Files" and go through each directory until you find it.

Or while in "my files" press menu, then search, input the file name "7777pbhc7333" and it should find the file, once found you can delete it, or try using another file browser other than my files.

Also while in your home screen press and hold the menu button and it should bring up a search option where you can choose to search your phone, just search the file name and see if any results come up

Found it now, it was in sdcard0/Download after all. I am sure it wasn't showing before, but may have been user error. Thanks to everyone for helping out.
