Q: Which tariffs will the iPhone 5 be available on if I grab one from a store?

A: When you buy iPhone from O2’s website or through our call centres you will be buying it from Carphone Warehouse (O2 will be acting as an agent for Carphone Warehouse). Many of us must be locked into a contract on a 3G/4/4s, but we want to buy an unlocked 5 from Apple asap. O2 have a 'order your nano-sim' page up..BUT it doesn't answer these important questions..
1) How long will the nano-sim take to arrive / when will they send it?
2) Will they switch us over for free, even though we're not buying the new handset from them?
3) Can we choose when the contract is switched to the nano-sim? E.g. If the new phone arrives first we could be left for ages without a nano-sim for it. OR even worse - if O2 send the nano-sim quickly AND switch the contract to it immediately (before the new handset has arrived from Apple) - then our old handset is useless...
4) Can long-standing customers get personal delivery of the nano-sim from a bevy of O2 beauties (or Sean bean if you're female or that way inclined)?

went into an O2 store this morning and they have no info. Just say come back on 21st when phone is on sale. Makes no sense as last time around when the 4 was introduced, a lot of microsims were made available beforehand so that you could have it prepared before the new phone had arrived allowing a straight swap.
Aas far as swapping is concerned it looks like they will do the same as last time and you can input the sim ID number on their website and it swaps almost immediately to new sim

Hi All.
First post, but I have had every iphone since the 3gs and this same argument happens every year!
I will make a prediction:
If you look at the bottom (last) tariff on this page:
http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/iphone-5
.....there is a tariff available for an upgrade 6 months early.
I'm fairly confident in my prediction because it has been the same every year that I have upgraded (3 times now).
See you outside the store in Bridgend next week....

I am planning to buy an iPhone 5 outright from Apple and stay on my existing cheap monthly contract with O2.
So I need a nano sim but I won't be buying a handset from O2. Called up just now. Conversation went like this:
Me: "Hello, I'd like to order a nano-SIM for the new iPhone 5 please."
O2 staff: "You'll get one when you buy the phone"
Me: "Ah, sorry, I forgot to say that I'll be buying the handset elsewhere, but want to stay on O2 on my existing price plan"
O2 staff: "Oh... Err, that's very rare, I've worked here for years and heard of that only, ooh, three times, maybe."
Me: "I see, well is it possible for me to register for a nano-sim?"
O2 staff: "No, they're not available yet, we haven't got any."
Me: "Is there any way for me to register in advance for when they are available?"
O2 staff: "Well the phone hasn't been released yet so there might be something nearer the time"
Me: "Well, true, it's not released yet but it's going to be released in one week, and most companies these days like to quote five working days for shipping, so you can see why I'm keep to pre-order a nano-sim."
O2 staff: "Like I say, try again nearer the time."
Me: "Try again where? On the website?"
O2 staff: "Oh no, because this is such a niche thing with someone buying an iPhone outright that they wouldn't put it on the website, no."
Me: "So shall I keep calling up every day and pestering you guys?"
O2 staff: "Oh no, don't be calling pestering us, no. Maybe try the stores."
Me: "So I won't be able to order a nano-sim for delivery, I'll have to go to the stores?"
O2 staff: "Yes."
Etc etc, you get the idea.

If you're buying from the online Apple store and want to make sure that you have a nanoSIM on the day, then I'd advise paying the tenner for the pay as you go SIM.
You could always try eBay as well.
