16/9, 15:10 - A few detals have been added to the page

17/9, 10:30 - Added a few more Q&As

17/9, 16:15 - Added some more questions & their answers

Q: Where’s the best place to find the latest info about the iPhone 5 on O2?

A: Check out http://j.mp/iPhone5O2 for all the latest information.

Q: How much does iPhone 5 cost?

A: You can have a look at our tariffs and prices for iPhone 5 at http://j.mp/iPhone5O2

Q: Will you be taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5?

A: Yes, you can pre-order iPhone 5 on O2 but stock is limited, so be quick.

Q: When will my iPhone 5 pre-order be delivered?

A: If we get your pre-order before 4pm the day before launch, we’ll get it to you on launch day. The only exception to this will be those customers with an address in the Highlands and Islands.

Q: Which tariffs will the iPhone 5 be available on if I grab one from a store?

A: The iPhone 5 will be available on our On & On 24-months tariff as well as the £63 per month tariff over 24 months.

Q: Is it available on 12 or 18 month tariffs?

A: the iPhone 5 is only available on 24 month tariffs.

Q: I’m at the end of my 12 month Simplicity contract.  Can I upgrade to iPhone 5 online?

A: Yes,  if you are at the end of your contract, you can upgrade to iPhone 5 with online pre-order or on launch day as long as we have the phone in stock.

Q: I’m on 12 month Simplicity but still in contract.  Can I upgrade early and get iPhone 5?

A: If you signed up to the special offer £20 a month On & On Simplicity, you’ll need to wait until after 6 months. All other Simplicity customers still in contract will need to go to an O2 retail shop on launch day, Friday 21 September. You will not be able to upgrade online.

Q: I’m on 30 day Simplicity.  Can I upgrade to iPhone 5 online?

A: If you’ve been with us for 6 months or longer, yes, you can upgrade with online pre-order as long as we have the phone in stock. Head over to o2.co.uk/upgrade

Q: What if I’ve been with O2 for less than 6 months on a Simplicity tariff?  Can I get iPhone 5?

A: It depends on the result of your last credit check. If you don’t see the option to pre-order via o2.co.uk/upgrade give us a call.

Q: Why are your Retail store iPhone 5 prices different to your Online/Telesales prices?

A: When you buy iPhone from O2’s website or through our call centres you will be buying it from Carphone Warehouse (O2 will be acting as an agent for Carphone Warehouse).  Carphone Warehouse set their own price for the iPhones we sell on their behalf, so prices may be different when compared to O2 Retail stores.

Hi all,

After reading through a substantial amount of posts/topics regarding the new iPhone I'm happy to see many of you have raised some very good points. I've got a few questions of my own if you don't mind humouring me? I apologise in advance if my questions have been asked before.

I've been with O2 for years and I've never experienced any issue with them, In regard to the offers and signal O2 offer (in my area at least) their network is second to none. I'd like to avoid switching networks at all cost however with the recent announcements and O2 not to be seemingly bothered about their lack of iPhone 5 information or 4G support the jump over to EE is looking more and more appealing

My questions are as follows;

  1. As O2 have failed to secure a 4G network and from what I can see won't ever secure a 4G band that the new iPhone can pick up (thanks Ofcom!), what is O2 offering that would entice a would be iPhone 5 buyer onto its network? I’ve seen HSPA+ mentioned as an alternative but this is far from LTE and in my mind at least, only a fool not want to take advantage of their new (expensive) iPhones fully and have the speed benefits that Apple are pushing so much. As an additional question to this, what is happening in terms of their HSPA+ roll out? Is this already available? How much of the UK is covered? What speeds can we expect?

  1. O2 – When people are asking questions such as ‘Where can I get a nano-sim? Can I upgrade early?’ and so on.. Why do you proceed to tell us to wait for more information? I assume you already have this information to hand so why not provide it!? These are relevant questions that people would like to know prior to release so they can begin to make the necessary arrangements. I for one would certainly like to know the answer to some of those questions as If I plan to stay with O2 (which to be honest I highly doubt given the current situation). I’d like to know if I can buy out the rest of my contract (1 month remaining), I’d like to know where I can get my nano-sim etc..

  1. In terms of stocking the iPhone will O2 be receiving a significant enough amount of units to cope with demand or will it be the case that some of us have to wait a few weeks to get our hardware? (Yes guys – I’m one of those people who judging from other posts you all seem to dislike, because I want my phone on RELEASE DAY..)

I realise many of you O2 fanbois and forum trolls will shoot down my post but I hope that either an employee/representative from O2 will come forward and shed some light on all this. You’re currently leaving your user base completely in the dark and I for one am no fan of the dark! I envisage O2 will lose a substantial amount of customers because of the lack of LTE so as a loyal O2 customer I’d at least appreciate some sort of informative response from O2 as to where we go from now

Thanks for reading through my wall of text and I look forward to reading your responses.

Ell

Ok, so here's a thought. If EE is 4G only, what happens when you're not in a 4G reception area? Does the phone cease to work? If so, being an early adopter doesn't seem like such a sensible idea.

The iPhone 5 supports HSPA+, and that's probably good enough until there's a LTE carrier who can both support all the data connection options from GPRS up and not charge a ridiculous amount for it. I'm also still rather fond of visual voicemail, and it's the only thing that stopped me switching to a cheaper plan on Three some time ago.

The UK model supports these bands : UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)

So it will drop to 3G speeds.  Band switching in this manner will eat the battery for breakfast.

@ESherlock O2 is rolling out DC-HSDPA as we speak (40mb + of sweet, sweet goodness)

Thanks for your response Neqael, Although I'm happy that 40mb+ is a massive boost in comparison to 3G speeds it's still a long shot away from what LTE can provide and If I've bought an iPhone that is marketing LTE as one of its strong points I damnn well want to have those speeds lol.

And no O2 will get no allocation of the 1800mhz band, Instead EE are selling part of the band to Three (another absolutely terrible network) as part of the agreement.

In addition to this, the 800mhz band thats being auctioned isn't even supported by the new iPhone!!

After reading through all of these threads i think its hilarious, i have had numerous conversations with those from o2 and really all this mhz and data, without being rude the average computer doesnt work on those speeds. I think apple and fans of apple should just be happy with the level of service that they offer. Apple clearly like o2, otherwise a contract option wouldnt be in place, so just wait until confirmed o2 details have come out to criticise o2.

All in all they are phones so if the work at a good speed its better than at no speed at all!!
