Hi all,
After reading through a substantial amount of posts/topics regarding the new iPhone I'm happy to see many of you have raised some very good points. I've got a few questions of my own if you don't mind humouring me? I apologise in advance if my questions have been asked before.
I've been with O2 for years and I've never experienced any issue with them, In regard to the offers and signal O2 offer (in my area at least) their network is second to none. I'd like to avoid switching networks at all cost however with the recent announcements and O2 not to be seemingly bothered about their lack of iPhone 5 information or 4G support the jump over to EE is looking more and more appealing
My questions are as follows;
I realise many of you O2 fanbois and forum trolls will shoot down my post but I hope that either an employee/representative from O2 will come forward and shed some light on all this. You’re currently leaving your user base completely in the dark and I for one am no fan of the dark! I envisage O2 will lose a substantial amount of customers because of the lack of LTE so as a loyal O2 customer I’d at least appreciate some sort of informative response from O2 as to where we go from now
Thanks for reading through my wall of text and I look forward to reading your responses.
Ell

Ok, so here's a thought. If EE is 4G only, what happens when you're not in a 4G reception area? Does the phone cease to work? If so, being an early adopter doesn't seem like such a sensible idea.
The iPhone 5 supports HSPA+, and that's probably good enough until there's a LTE carrier who can both support all the data connection options from GPRS up and not charge a ridiculous amount for it. I'm also still rather fond of visual voicemail, and it's the only thing that stopped me switching to a cheaper plan on Three some time ago.

The UK model supports these bands : UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
So it will drop to 3G speeds. Band switching in this manner will eat the battery for breakfast.
@ESherlock O2 is rolling out DC-HSDPA as we speak (40mb + of sweet, sweet goodness)

so band 1 is the 2100 mhz band 3 is 1800 mhz and band 5 850 http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/cellulartelecomms/lte-long-term-evolution/lte-frequency-spectr...
Correction o2 and all other 4g in uk will be band 20 in the 800mhz range in the link above

I think that we will get an allocation of the 1800mhz band as well no?

Thanks for your response Neqael, Although I'm happy that 40mb+ is a massive boost in comparison to 3G speeds it's still a long shot away from what LTE can provide and If I've bought an iPhone that is marketing LTE as one of its strong points I damnn well want to have those speeds lol.
And no O2 will get no allocation of the 1800mhz band, Instead EE are selling part of the band to Three (another absolutely terrible network) as part of the agreement.
In addition to this, the 800mhz band thats being auctioned isn't even supported by the new iPhone!!
13-09-2012 09:51
800mhz is band 5 which will work.

o2 already have spectrum in the 1800mhz band but can only use it for 2g services at present
and only 5mhz of bandwidth all info here http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radiocommunication-licences/mobile-wireless-broadband/cellular-wireles...

After reading through all of these threads i think its hilarious, i have had numerous conversations with those from o2 and really all this mhz and data, without being rude the average computer doesnt work on those speeds. I think apple and fans of apple should just be happy with the level of service that they offer. Apple clearly like o2, otherwise a contract option wouldnt be in place, so just wait until confirmed o2 details have come out to criticise o2.
All in all they are phones so if the work at a good speed its better than at no speed at all!!
