Well that's great news!
A summer roll out? In that case, it'll be major cities again. 4G will only really be noticable when it becomes nationwide I think.
Hopefully, 4G might be added to my tarriff as I've bought a 4G phone? I doubt it though

Hmm, I'm not so happy about this! Yep I like the 4G however, according to the 'Price Promise', we have to buy out our current iPhone 5 contract and start new iPhone 5 ones WITHOUT our allowances transferring over, just to get a new 4G contract??? This is ridiculous!!!
Using the formula posted on the Price Promise which is this:
How we work out the cost
It depends on how many full months are left on your contract, and how much your tariff costs a month. To keep things simple, we don't include the cost of any Bolt Ons (such as data) or Extras (such as insurance).
Let's say you take an iPhone in November 2012 on our best ever £36 On&On tariff. Then in August 2013 you see a new phone you just have to have so you decide to use your 4G phone promise:
Monthly line rental | £36.00 |
Months left on your contract | 15 |
Line rental to pay | £540.00 |
4G price Promise Discount | 25% |
Discounted line rental | £405.00 |
O2 recycle for an iPhone 5 16GB* | £265.00 |
Fee to pay =£140
|
I have calculated that for me to switch over, it's gonna cost me £319!!!!!
i have 19 months left on contract @£41 per month which leaves £779 to pay. Then minus 25% discount and the Recycle fee (which will probably be less!!) and it leaves me to pay £319 JUST TO SWITCH FROM A 3G CONTRACT TO A 4G CONTRACT??
Now THAT is just NO incentive to switch..........

@dinof that is because the iPhone 5 has no support for band 20 as in many of the threads at launch time. So not for a new contract but handset capable of O2 4g.

But, you all knew 4G was coming......!!
Yeah, but I didn't think it would be so soon!
Anyway, because I live in a very rural area, I'm lucky to get 3G Until the coverage becomes wider, I'll stick with what I got.
I mean, we only just got BT fibre broadband. But we havn't even got Virgin fibre broadband yet!

Exciting times ahead then. I think most people realised that with 4G would come a more expensive phone as it was widely reported both on here and in the press that the majority of the handsets on sale were not 4G compatible.
I was fully aware that my £400 S3 would have to be replaced to use the network's 4G service but happy in the knowledge that I would see no great benefit in 4G personally, either for speed or possibly higher tariffs.
I have no time for the general whinging to follow:smileywink:

@adamtemp64 .....so you're saying the iPhone 5 does not support 4G on O2?
How come I know people who have an iPhone 4/4S on EE (T-Mobile) who have 4G connections and us who have more up to date iPhone 5s don't have support for 4G on O2?!?!?
