I am sure you will get the extra data allowance, O2 won't refuse you a 4G contract just because you aren't in a 4G area. You could be relocating permanently to London for all they know.

Thanks folks.  You're both right of course — confirmed this in store today.  Seems to me the tariffs aren't so bad if you go for it before 31 October, for moderate-to-high data users anyway.  Sure beats my old "The Works" 1GB data bolt on!

Vodaphone have upped the ante with a certain fruity company getting set for the launch of their new 5S and 5C models. An extra 4GB of data free to existing customers and to anyone signing up for 4G before the end of October.

Will O2 try to match?

A tariff war between networks can only be good for the consumer. Long may it continue. slight_smile

I'm not really feeling affected by it yet, as I'm still on my legacy tariff, even though my phone is 4G ready, but I know what you mean. I think that eventually they'll all catch up with each other, and the offers between networks won't be that different. Same as they are for 3G now.
