My phone has suddenly stopped working between Dubai and Sydney. No damage occurred. It won't contact a network of any sort. I tried to add an esim and that would not work either. I have tried restarting it. Turning it off for a couple of hours. But I can't get any signal. Any advice?

SIM format makes no odds, and with O2 you may be in a new world of pain with an eSIM...
Manually search for Vodafone.
O2 contacts: ( https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (X)( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram ( https://o2uk.co/O2CIG) , they should be able to help.
Also note Australian telcos have been brutal in their removal of 3G networks:
see @Enlli's post here for guidance,

I'm getting a number of reports via friends in Australia that even phones that comply are being denied access,
Make sure that 4G calling (VoLTE) is actually selected in your phones settings and then manually try using a network
As mentioned Vodafone is less strict

For all intents, VoLTE is now a requirement for voice calls in Australia. The symptoms of not having this would normally be coverage displayed and mobile data working, but an inability to make or receive voice calls.
