Hi,

I am trying to get my Mum started on a Samsung tablet (no sim slot) that she has been given & O2 seems to be the best network for her.  She has no internet to her home and wishes to use the tablet for Whatsapp/Messenger for us to stay in touch.  Can you please advise me of the best way forward for her please as i am not at all savvy in this area.

Thank you,

Jo

If she has a phone then she can use it as a hotspot for the tablet as long as she has a decent amount of data on her tariff

O2 are currently offering a 100GB sim for £20 per month which is more than enough for her phone and tablet.

@JoC

This is difficult. If the tablet has no sim slot then she needs to use Wifi, which you say she hasn't got.

Without knowing the tablet type, I'm wondering if it's able to take a mobile Wifi plug in dongle?

If so she could use that as a Wifi connection and use as normal.

Thanks for your replies.  Mum uses an extremely old fashioned mobile (not a smarphone) and has minimal PAYG top up's the tablet is a Samsung tab A but has no slot to plug in a dongle directly.  Would a pocket wifi device work?  If so would a standard one do the job or do you get what you pay for in terms of picking up a signal etc.?

Brilliant! Thank you so much for your help, i had seen this but wasn't sure it was what was needed.  If i purchase this from o2 then take out a sky mobile/Tesco data plan will it still work or does it have to be a data plan from o2 directly?

Yes, Tesco or giffgaff sim will work in an O2 device.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
