automatically charged for data

What is with o2 charging me automatically for data? I reset my phone logging in to wifi and I get this lovely message saying we have taken £1 from your credit and given you 50mb of data to use till midnight.  What crap I didn't buy it. It should have asked before even charging me and why would I buy data when I have home wifi and I am at home ? How do I get my money back ? Not happy this was charged automatically. Will thus keep happening if I change phones or just hard reset?

Wifi still works as I'm using it now to go on the Internet without having to use mobile date. Also if I'm really do need Internet then I can tether to my hubby's contact phone if out and about but normally have never used the mobile data as most places have free Internet. If on contact then yes would use.
