I have to travel to Africa for work but want to be able to use my phone to call back home to UK. Is there a plan that I can use to help keep the phone charges down?

Hi @Peel2504
If traveling to South Africa you need the O2 Travel Bolt on
O2 Travel is available on Pay Monthly. 120 minutes, 120 texts and data for £4.99 a day. You need to text O2TRAVEL to 23336. It can take 24 hrs for it to be applied to your account.

Without O2 Travel you would pay standard rates ie
Standard Rates
Our Pay Monthly customers will be charged at the following rate when calling or texting from this country.
Making a local call to landlines or mobiles will always be the same price as calling home when you're abroad.
Sending a picture message (MMS) costs 65p and it's always free to receive a text.
When in: Calling:
Making calls - per minute | £2.00 |
Receiving calls - per minute | £2.00 |
Sending texts - per message | 50p |
Cost per MB of using data:
Data usage | £7.20 |
You should make use of local Wifi wherever you can. You only get charged for O2 Travel on the days you use it.. Turn Voicemail off.
Finally check with O2 before you go, that there are NO roaming bars on your account.
Hope this helps and welcome to the forum
