How do these scammers know we are with O2?

Why dont O2 do something to prevent them being able to SMS O2 clients?

Last year I was one of the hundreds caught out by the NEXGEN scam, a problem O2 had been aware of for 18 months and did nothing about. O2 have a duty of care to protect customers and are doing nothing about these scams, often taking a cut (as they did with nexgen) from the amounts paid by gullible customers.

They only know the number originated on O2, not that it still is, hence people that have ported out to different networks are getting them saying they are from O2.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
