Why do some texts cost more than others to send to another UK mobile? I'm on payg and costs are ranging between 12p and 36p. Is it my phone (Sony Experia E1-only a month old) or does it depend on the length of the text? 59 year old female who's not all that savvy with this new stuff!

Other networks would cost more than sending to someone else on O2
Not other UK networks though.

36p will most likely be 3 texts.
Even if you only write one message that has more than 320 characters, you will be charged for 3 standard texts.
The maximum you can send as a text is 480 characters.
And most phones inform you if they are converting to MMS?....
