Last week I received a text from a mate it came up on an unrecognied number (which began with 0 not +44) which I have never seen or used before. If I text on his usual number his replies come back on this unrecognised number and I can also text him on this number. On his phone everything is as usual. Anyone know what the issue is here and who's issue it is? Neither me or him have had this issue with anyone else.

Sounds like a phone issue, as your phone is stripping the +44 from the number.

Have you tried deleting the contact from your phone and then readding it back in?

If your mate is using an iPhone ask him to check what number is in Settings >Phone >My Number

Get him to check the settings in the new Google SMS app, I had to change mine when I ported a number into another network earlier today...
