RECEIVING CALLS IN AUSTRALIA

Anonymous
Not applicable

My boyfriend called me from the UK while I was in Australia, we are both 02 customers.  His bill is normal - mine is over £500.  Surely this can't be right.  How can I be charged for calls I didnt make????

You get charged for receiving calls when roaming I'm afraid.
£500 must have been a long call though.

80p per minute http://international.o2.co.uk/internationaltariffs/travelling_abroad

Which means the call lasted for 26 days, so I assume you have also been charged for making calls, sending texts and using data?

Your MyO2 will give you a full breakdown http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2

Thanks for the reply,  I now realise that it is 80pence per minute, I make that 11.25 hours of calls?  It is the biggest rip off ever.  I cant believe that it is legal to charge someone for receiving calls....

I'm sure it is legal as all networks are the same.
Asking if the prices are ethical, is a different question altogether though.....

It's about 10.5 hours - my math was way off before Confused

You really need to research costs before you go. A harsh lesson but as a seasoned traveller myself, I am well aware of charges and use Skype, Line, Messenger etc. Easy to comment after the fact but people should do their homework and make alternative options..There are so many that cost you nothing at all. O2 are in no way to blame for the charges incurred.

@Anonymous, on O2, if you're in the UK and you call a UK number, it doesn't matter where the recipient is, it'll be free to place the call.

As others have mentioned, if you're the person abroad, you're connected to a foreign network. If you use services on that network such as calls, texts or data, that network will bill O2 and O2 bill you for the services used.

This is all in your contract T&C's and international roaming rates are accessible at www.o2.co.uk/international . You should also have received a text message upon landing reminding you of the charges.

I'd recommend viewing the itemised bill on MyO2 to see exactly what you've been charged for and to contact customer services when you return home if you think there are any discrepancies.

Hope this helps
