Hi
My contract ended at the end of November and I’m now on a monthly rolling charge . I have bought a new phone and contract with O2 via mobile phones direct. I kept my number. Do I need to cancel my rolling monthly contract with O2?

If you've migrated your number to the new contract, your old one will have ended at the point of migration.

You can't have 2 contracts with the same number.

No, your new contract with O2 should have cancelled your old one.

Edited to add, just to make sure (as I don't know whether you upgraded) you should call O2. All numbers in this guide Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support
