We have been advised that there is an issue with the mast in our area of ME1 but it has been days now and I am not getting any update and cannot get through to anyone on the phone. Does anyone know what else I can do as it is very frustrating.

The simple answer is nothing you can do, as repair can take time to resolve due to many factors.
The best way to get updates is to either use the My Network App, or register via https://status.o2.co.uk
Also enable Wifi Calling on your phone to be able to make and receive calls whilst at home
