I currently have a pay monthly account. The mobile is used by my daughter, but in my name on the Account. My daughter wants to take over the Account. I think I will have to close this Account as don’t think they can just change the name on the Account. Does anyone know how we can keep the same phone & number but start a new account. We don’t want to lose the number.

In addition to advice above from @Cleoriff and @MI5 , it might be worth you and your daughter dropping into your nearest O2 shop, open now after many months of lockdown, @Den1. Take your current contract phone and SIM with you so the shop staff can get all done while you are there. You and your daughter may need a couple of forms of id, eg a utility bill or bank statement in the name of your daughter, and a photographic id - assuming there is a phone on O2's offerings at a price you like.

The current phone, if you wish to keep it active, will need either a new SIM-only contract or can be switched to PAYG, assuming it does not move to your daughter along with her shiny new contract and tariff.

Good luck.

@Den1

You need to apply for the new contract and pass credit checks, then call O2 to migrate the number

Guide: Migration & porting into O2

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

@Den1

You would need to pay off the contract, the phone will be yours to keep. Your daughter needs to take out her own contract (sim only) where she will undergo credit checks etc.

You need to talk to O2 about migrating the number to the sim only contract.

Guide: How does O2 Refresh work?

In fact your best bet is to talk to O2 with your daughter present, to explain what you want to do.

All numbers to call are in this guide Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support
