Keeping old sim active

Hi

    I will soon be switching my mobile to Giffgaf, as now o2 have sold BB to Sky and I will no longer be getting the mobile discount on BB package (Will be going somewhere else for BB, defo not Sky) there is no reason to keep mobile with o2.

  I would however like to keep my old sim active so that if I want, I will be able to come back at a later date to it. I will not be transfering my current no to GG.

  Can anyone tell me how often I would have to use this sim to keep the number active, is it 6 months or is it sooner? Or am I wrong about this?

You need to make a chargeable call every 6 months and top up every 999 days.

You will still get your discount as long as you stay with your current broadband deal, you will only lose it once you sign up a new one.
