Is it possible for me to have a family member pay for the O2 eSIM (should they pass the credit check) and I can then add it to my phone?

@TheJobinator Are you sure it's locked to O2. They haven't locked phones for the last 5 years
You can find out if your iPhone is locked by going to Settings > General > About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.

Yes it is possible and they will need to pass a credit and affordability check.
Anyone can then use the sim but regardless of who uses it, the named person will be responsible for the bills.

The alternative would be to have your second SIM on another network.
There are other advantages to that too.
