Cooloing off period, what does it really mean?

Anonymous

When I contacted O2 to give notice to cancel, I was offered a new deal (to keep me) and was told that I had nothing to worry about as I had a cooling off period of 7 days to return the phone if I was not happy owe nothing, but on looking at the terms it seems that I will be still locked into the new 24 month contract. Is that correct or have I misread it?

When you take a new contract you have 7 days to decide if you want to keep it or not. If not, return phone and cancel within 7 days and walk away completely free. If you go over the 7 days you are tied in for the duration.....

You are able to return the phone to O2 within your cooling off period, which is 7 working days (10 calendar days) from the date you signed for the delivery of the phone. This can be for any reason whatsoever, change of mind, got a different deal elsewhere, e.t.c

The contract term of 24 months will only apply and tie you in once you have passed the cooling off period, as if you decide to cancel your contract after the 7 days you are liable to pay the remaining line rental that is left per month for the remainder of the term.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, she did say that I had seven days. So if I did decide to cancel what would be the best way to do that? I'm not really happy about doing these things over the phone, and the email option seems difficult to find.

If you wish to cancel, just return the phone using the returns label in the box with the phone, then call customer service to arrange cancelling your contract. Always get a proof of postage receipt from the post office to cover you if the phone goes missing in the post.

If you just wish to lower your tariff while you decide on a different phone to get as an upgrade, you don't have to cancel, you can move to sim only for the time being?
