Change Phones on 24 Month Contract?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

Thought I'd ask here for some advice.

I am on a 24 month contract and about half way through; simply put I am not sure I can stick this phone anymore.

I am wondering if O2 would allow me to either trade this phone for cash (to Cex) or use their O2 recycle thing to put money towards a different phone but stay on this contract? (for my texts and minutes etc).

The phone I am looking at is a really old Palm Pre (used to own one and now want it back).

Another year with this slow thing may drive me nuts, I only use it to text with.

Thanks all

If you get O2 to unlock the phone before you sell it on it will be worth a little bit more than a phone locked to O2. The bootloader is impossible to unlock so don't worry about it.

O2 don't care what you do with the phone. It's yours.

It's only people on the new refresh tariffs that are not supposed to sell them
Until the payments are completed.

You can sell your phone and keep your sim to put in another phone, it's your choice, no need for approval from O2.

To add you may need another sized sim if you change phones, and these can be picked up from O2 stores free where they will do the sim swap for you.

You need to be a member at cex and allow for about an hour for them to test it and check it over.

Thanks for the quick responses.

O2 has their own firmware and bootloader on my Android phone, so would it accept a standard pay and go SIM? (for when I sell it on to CEX for example).

I will definitely be using the same SIM card as I may as well; I was paying £10 per month for unlimited texts but for an extra £1 I now have 100MB data and 50 minutes of calls. If I can make a tiny bit of cash back it doesn't really bother me.

I am undecided on what phone at the moment; just checking to make sure it's all OK.

Thanks again!

Thanks very much I appreciate it.

My partner owns a Windows 8 phone (Lumia 520) and it is stunning. Obviously my partner has smaller fingers than me so it looks easy to type on it. For the long run I am not too sure I could stick it; I thought that about my Xperia Miro but if it wasn't for Sony's swipe I would of probably got frustrated much sooner.

That's why I'm looking towards the HP Pre 3. I used to own quite a few Palm products (Pre, Pre Plus, Pre 2) but they all broke down quick. I did buy second hand but in apparently "as new" condition. But I am weary of the build quality of this HP Pre 3 (CEX A grade condition).

Does anyone have experienced with the HP Pre 3s? I hope it'll last a few years, I do miss the old WebOS operating system and a physical keyboard but unsure on the build quality (will it last or are they built to break down?).
