When cancelling an O2 Pay Monthly contract early, do you need to return the phone back to O2?

It depends

If you are leaving because O2 have agreed to terminate the contract without penalty then you would have to return the handset

If you are leaving early by your choice you would have to pay off the device plan in full and it's then yours to keep
