I am unable to recieve voice calls or text messages on my old Nokia or new Alctel phones but I can when I put the SIM into my husband's Xperia.

 

Making calls is no problem.  I have follwed the online advice to clear diverts without any luck and am a bit stuck.  Clearly this is not a device issue and any help would be appreciated

It must be an issue with both your phones if it works in the Xperia. Try dialling ##002# to cancel all diverts.
