4G uses more data than 3G

I upgraded to the O2 4G service and now less than half way through the month I have used up my 1GB of data. Now I know what you will think "you dowloaded more data this month". Well actually this is afr from the truth. I have not used the phone any different from how I used it in the last 24 months on 3G. And during the last 24 months my iGB data usage has never been fully used.

OK, so I know I have not done anything different (apart from now it's 4G and not 3G) - so does that mean that 4G uses up your data quicker.

This month, I have NOT downloaded any videos or audios, I have not used skype on teh 4G network, and used any data hungry application.

Anyone else have experienced this?

I Think you'll find that 4G does use more than 3G (around double, if not 3 times as much!)
If you check data usage on the o2 website (here www.o2.co.uk/data-calculator) and change from 3G to 4G it will go up. Also the explanation O2 give if this...4G's faster. So your video clips and mobile TV will look and sound better. But those faster speeds use a bit more data.

See just how much more by comparing 3G and 4G on our data calculator.

Really, so if I download a 1mb file on 3g it's 1mb - correct?
So how big is it if I download it on 4g.....? 2mb...???

Only variable bit rate streams would change actual usage so if a low def stream on 3g was fed but a hi def over 4g if the device auto enables higher bit rates on 4g. (if you get my drift)

But any fixed file size would be the same 2g 3g and 4g only difference would be the time taken to download
