If it called you consider it a scam as any number can be spoofed.

If they asked for a code it is a scam
As always, if in doubt hang up and call O2 yourself
It seems to be an O2 number but it could easily have been spoofed

I rang O2 on 202 asking if they had any upgrade sims with more data on put me through and this guy came in with very strong accent and i couldnt tell what he was saying then he started asking questions like how much do i earn annually ? He didnt ask for bank details
He sent me email with tariff in asked if i had received it i had but i was very wary so told him forget it,
He rang me back 4 times on that number so i blocked him
Are they no more nice people on other end phone when you ring them ?

Use USwitch @Poppysmum
https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/o2/
Choose the deal you want
This will automatically redirect you to the O2 website
Just follow the prompts and choose the UPGRADE option
Complete the deal and nothing on your account changes except the tariff at the new cheaper cost
Payment date is the same and your next bill will be at the cheaper rate and will be made up of the pro rata cost of your old tariff and your new tariff
The change should show in My O2 within 24 hours
Volt benefits will still apply as will possibly a 3 month extra such as Disney+
