Unable to make calls, text or use data from Spain

I’m currently on a rolling plan and just traveled to Spain and I’m not able to make any calls, send texts or use my data. I can’t receive calls either. For some reason, I can receive texts.

 

I’m new to O2 so not sure if there’s something stopping me or blocking this. 

About a month ago I transferred my number from vodafone to O2 and it works fine in the UK but not in Spain.

 

Anyone has any suggestions?

just done some reading. So 3G is shutting down in Spain and PAYG O2 doesn't allow calls using 4G! So to make a call you still need one of these networks it seems. So that leaves O2's PAYG obsolete doesn't it? What are they doing about this? Are they updating their system or replacing SIMs with new compatible SIMs?

At the moment they are doing nothing @Cozzzzzzzzz 

Complete contempt for payg customers and a mockery of the boasts regarding free EU roaming.

I had the same issue in Dublin last month by the way. Is Ireland also shutting down 3G?

 

So my only option with O2 is to move to pay monthly?

It will be in 2025 when O2 shuts down the 3g network.

Currently O2 payg is not an option for travelers as many countries are shutting down 3g networks.

Maybe they'll be forced to update their ridiculous payg SIMs if they close the only network they work with.

 

I need to find a new option then, as I need a UK PAYG SIM that works in Spain and which I don't need to keep topping up ever month. As I only use it occasionally in Spain, like for example today I wanted to phone my friend who is in a bad way in hospital. I can't make a dat call with an app. Anyone have any suggestions of providers who do fulfil what they say and have a PAYG SIM that works in Europe?

Just checked and my other phone works on 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE. All networks are up and running. It also seems 2G/3G/4G and 4G+ are all working with Movistar in my area when I check their website. O2 and Movistar are the same company I believe, so it's strange that O2 PAYG doesn't work when all the networks are up and running. Maybe O2 Uk has just decided to stop their PAYG SIMs from working in Europe for fun!
