I've discovered that despite O2 claiming my area is "good for 4G indoors and out", my connection strength is only as high as -105dBm and can be as low as -119dBm, causing the phone to disconnect. If I turn off 2G I cannot make calls at all. My sim card is several years old so I am wondering if a new card would improve matters. Can I ask for a new card and would I get one? Would it help?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Worth trying a new SIM. Best to call into an O2 store with Photo ID and they will sort it
If you order online they will disconnect your present SIM as soon as the new one is sent out
