I have a BT router for my Broadband at home. is there any way that my mobile can use the wifi connection on it.

Yes. Check your phone manual to see how to connect to your router via WiFi.

You will also need to know the wifi password it's usually on the bottom of the router

It's ridiculous that a modern phone doesn't have wifi. Even the old Nokias had that capability.
