O2 population promise

Anonymous
Not applicable
O2 have promised a certain percentage coverage for 2g/3g/4g by end 2015 which sounds all lovely and rosey.

However, I cannot find what O2 define as populated.

Is there a certain amount of people in a certain specified area for O2 to consider it populated?

Wonder if the few O2 employees that are here could find an answer.

Cheers.

I have to say gillsfankev that I am dubious about the o2 promise. Perksie will hate me for saying it as she has said repeatedly her view.

o2 are saying 98% of the population with have 2g/3g/4g.

Does this mean:
98% will get 4g
98% will also get 3g
98% will also get 2g

Or is it that 98% of the population will get some or all of the above? The way I read it if you get 2g now then they have you covered in that promise.

I may be wrong and I am happy to be corrected on here if that is the case (go for it Perksie) but I cant help but be dubious given o2's other tricks and stunts over the last few weeks.

the document makes it clear it is accross all frequencies 2g 3g 4g so for o2 800mhz 900mhz  1800mhz 2100mhz

As o2 upgrade the bas for 4g new kit is installed that is multi band so all masts will carry all the technologies gsm utms and lte

and it has to be at 2mb speed so 2g gprs or edge would not qualify

So the 98% thing is population as defined by ofcom.  Means O2 can't make up an interpretation.  If they need to build more masts (I reckon they do) then they need to.  There's no ifs, buts, getouts.  It has to be 98%.  This was a caveat of the 800MHz band of the spectrum for 4G (the old analogue tv signal space is 800Mhz so indoor penetration should be good).

Calculus and planning-aside. Isn't 2 years a realistic target for most 'populated' mobile regions?
Indubitably true. Samsung S21 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra

That's the way it's written and agreed with Ofcom, also the way I have quoted it, O2 have no say in this.
