O2 Recycling - a bunch of con artists

We bought my son out of his contract so he could get an iPhone X on the premis that he pays us back when he’s recycled his current iPhone. They offered him £280 which nearly covered his cost so he went for it. He gets an email from O2 today saying they are only offering him £140 because the screen is cracked. Now I know that phone was in immaculate condition when I posted it. The don’t give a s**t! Their argument was claim it back through Royal Mail, but you can only get £100 so my son is still short of the £280 offered by O2. O2 provided the packaging for the phone and when I raised this point they said it was compliant with Royal Mail’s specifications. Clearly it’s not or the phone would have arrived at o2 in the same condition it left my house I.e. perfect. Whatever you do don’t trust them - they will con you out their original offer by whatever means possible. I asked for my concerns to be through as an official complaint and was told they will only tell me the same thing. So they are also colluding to cover each other’s backs. How mean is that. My son is 18 and earning a minimal wage from his apprenticeship so this was a big decision for him to commit to anyway because of the cost and now he’s lost money. O2 - how can you be so ruthless and uncaring!!!!!

Make the complaint anyway, these cowboys try this on all too often https://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain
Search the forum for many similar horror stories.
I'd ask for the phone back as it's probably not damaged anyway!
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

There are many such complaints about O2 recycle @Anonymous.

As for the phone back and sell it elsewhere (CEX) Use the money to pay off the device plan.

Cracked screens are the usual excuse given by O2 recycle. When in fact the phone is pristine.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen threads just like this one. It amazes me that O2 allows this con to continue unabated. It's unfortunate that we only hear about what's occurred after the fact. I wish more people would come here to ask where to take their phones to recycle before they send them to O2.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

I'd rather go to somewhere like CEX than waste postage or trust any valuable device to those people at O2 Recycle. I've said this from day one and I will never be one of their victims. There are too many of those already and no doubt there will be many many more.

I’d take it to CEX once you get it back from O2. You’ll get a way better deal
