THE ANSWERS:

Q1 [GEOGRAPHY - 1] Which is the third largest of the Channel Islands ?

A1   Alderney

Q2 [SPACE - 1] Who was the American astronaut who made the last solo [one-man] space flight ?

A2    Gordon Cooper in Faith 7 launched 15 May 1963

One member [see Results below] submitted the name of Brian Binnie. Having never heard of him

I did some checking and discovered that Space.com in 2014 cited Cooper as the last American

government astronaut to fly alone to date; and the website also mentions that Cooper was the

last American to have flown a solo mission in space until, on the day of Cooper's death, Brian

Binnie piloted SpaceShipOne on its second and final flight on 4 Oct 2004.

As the question did not specify American government and/or NASA astronaut, I will also accept

Brian Binnie as a correct answer.

Q3 [LITERATURE - 1] In which Shakespeare play does the word "rhinoceros" appear ?

         Macbeth

Q4 [TV - 1] Which British TV game show features "ghost drops" and "riders" ?

A4     Tipping Point

Q5 [GEOGRAPHY - 2] In which British county is the town of Stockton-on-Tees ?

A5     County Durham

Q6 [SPACE - 2] Titan is a moon of which planet in our solar system ?

A6     Saturn

Q7 [LITERATURE - 2] Who wrote the short story "The Pit And The Pendulum" published in 1842 ?

A7     Edgar Allen Poe

Q8 [TV -2] What is the first name of each of the Rich brothers who appear with Charlie Dimmock in the

British TV show "Garden Rescue" ?

A8     David and Harry

Thanks for accepting Binnie as an answer to the space q - QI was at the back of my mind... 😉

I thought someone would think garden makeovers might include characters called Filthy and Catflap, the Rich being the late Rik Mayall 😔

Great quiz, @Mi-Amigo, in the run-up to the 500th question coming later 👍
